Behind the Mask
Making a FIERCE change in your life, acquiring new insights and ways of thinking requires taking a closer look at yourself. To that end, you have to face the ways you get in your own way and how we mask and figuratively clutter and buffer what we think and feel.Your addictions, cravings, habits and negative self-talk all have one thing in common. They stand in the way of what is really going on with you.A way to swab the deck and clear this clutter away is so simple it almost seems impossible that it really works. But it really does work. Simply write down the thought or feeling on a piece of paper, and then look at it and read it back to yourself and then, rip it up or crumble it and throw it away. PLEASE understand, this is in no way to suggest that the thought or feeling is expendable and not worth acknowledgment. It is quite the opposite. I call is FIERCE Jots.By writing down the thought or feeling that is spinning around in your head, you are giving it substance and respect. A place in the real world. You can see it and hold it in your hand. Now you can let it goand find out what is behind it. Take the mask off of the underlying thoughts and feelings.When you are trying to access information from the internet and get hung up buffering for one reason or another. It just keeps spinning around and around and all of the information you want is unavailable to you. This is how the thoughts and feelings in your head work.If you think "I want to eat healthier". As the day goes on, you are tempted by things you want to eat. This could come up at work, as you commute, at a party, your partner may not be trying to eat healthily, or left-overs in my refrigerator or pantry. You think "I am tempted to eat cheese but don't want to." I make a FIERCE Jot by writing this on a piece of paper. You are getting it out of your head and taking off the mask to find what is behind the craving. You can see it and hold it. It is in reality, not just in your mind. It is no longer buffering and standing in the way.When you think of how clutter unserves the same purpose. You want to get my paperwork ready for my accountant so she can do your taxes. But your desk is messy and you don't have your paperwork in order. The clutter is masking or getting in the way or buffering you from getting to the job at hand.After making the FIERCE Jot and toss it. Rip it. Crumble it. Throw it away. You do not need to keep this.
